I felt asleep while watching the film. Seems the movie's message is that we are only intelligent life in the known universe and we're all we have. Film forces the characters of the film to be rational and think logically at all times, if they show emotion they are no longer fit to do their job
What the void of a father can do to a kids life while being in the literal void of space
Film shows the power that emotions have and how the lack of them can lead to emptiness in your life, shown in Roy's relationship with his ex wife and others
Roy's father leaving him at the age of sixteen changed the rest of Roy's life and sent him on a course that was poetic in nature
Father was void of emotion and only cared about finding intelligent life and when he failed that was the fall of his character
I'm sure there will be a lot of themes taken form this film and plenty of different interpretations and I'm sure they will all be valid, movie wants us to think about life intimately and existentially and I think it succeeds

Pitt is an astronaut named Roy
Energy surge hit the antenna and starts to blow up and tumbled to the earth but parachuted and survived
Global energy surge from space hit all over the earth
Surge came from Neptune
Father was an astronaut that disappeared 16 years ago on the Lima project to the outer solar system
Told his father is still alive on Neptune
Father might be responsible for the anti matter attack
Want him to contact his father from their base on Mars to try and plead for no more attacks
Toy does voiceover throughout the film in a very arty way
Wife left him, no kids
Has to do constant psych evaluations and must always think logically and stay composed in his job
Commercial trips to the moon
40,000 people dead and power failures throughout the world from the surge
Moon is just a tourist destination now
Wars over mines on the moon
Fighting scene in the moon was pretty cool
Cinematography is good
Moon scenes look good
Roy's superior Colonel Pruit gives him an important file and must go alone now
Colonel Pruit was taken into emergency surgery
Score is good and works well
There was an SOS signal from the Lima Project on the file, mission is to stop the commander McBride
Seem to think that Commander McBride broke
Crew answers a mayday and a research monkey killed that ships crew and kills the captain of the ship that Roy is on, Roy told him not to take the mayday call, weird choice to have a monkey attack in space
Roy saves the crew when another surge hits and takes out the power of the ship and Roy must land it himself as the captain got scared
Roy tried to contact his father on the mars base, reads a script
Feels like an art house indie film which I like
Roy does a lot of deep thinking in the voiceovers
Roy goes off script to try and get him to answer on the 2nd try, really good scene
Get a response from his father and tell him they will take him back to Earth and his connection to the objective makes him unsuited to continue, Roy shows emotion and an increased heart rate for the first time
Nukes on the craft he came on, it's a search and destroy mission on his father, info from Helen
There was a transmission from his father as they tried to take over the ship and return to Earth but he stopped them and killed them as he wants to keep going and find intelligent life
Clifford McBride killed Helens parents on the Lima Project
Helen gets him to the ship and leaves
Voiceover always shows Roys true mental state as he must hide it to pass the Psych evaluations
Roy sneaks on the ship during takeoff and the crew get orders to kill him but they all die trying, Roy didn't want to fight them
Roy must now make the mission to his father alone
Journey will take 79 days
He was a neglectful husband
Journey is messing with his mind and body
Goes to his fathers ship in an escape pod and it gets hit with a surge
Dead bodies all over the place inside the Lima Project
Find out the Cliffords crew started the surge to try and get back home, he's been trying to stop it ever since, he also didn't find any life in our known universe
Roy tells him he hasn't failed because now we know that we are all that we've got, really good scene between Pitt and Jones
Gets back to Roy's ship and Clifford tells him to let him go and unclips him after they scuffle in open space, really visually beautiful scene
Clifford spirals off into space as Roy watches
Clifford did capture new worlds that had never been seen before
We are the anomaly, the intelligent life, we are always searching for others like us
Roy miraculous makes it back to his ship
Roy destroys the Lima Project and uses the explosion to propel himself to Earth
Roy makes it back to Earth and is solitude is over
Says he will focus on the essentials, life and love
Ends with him seeing his presumably ex wife.
